Background information
Gambia is a country that is located on the North-Western Coast of Africa and is known as one of the smallest countries within Africa. Gambia is also located right in the middle of Sengal. Gambia in 1455 was controlled by the Portuguese and had an established trading on the Gambia River. But in 1894, Gambia was turned over to the British. After 7 decades, Gambia became independent in 1965 with Dawda Jawara as the prime minister.
Current Affairs
The country of Gambia has been a very unfair country due to its lack of democracy. But in May 2013, there will be a national conference which will discuss about how to bring liberation and a sustainable change for the Gambian people. With its republican government at the moment, the people of Gambia aren’t allowed to vote to change their laws if the are unconstitutional or not. For their economy, their major exports are peanut products, fish and cotton. At the moment, their economy is one of the worst in the world.
